What is Ski Cross?

Ski Cross is an adrenaline-packed winter sport that blends speed, strategy, and high-flying action. Competitors race side-by-side down a winding course filled with jumps, banked turns, and rollers, vying for the top spot in this fast-paced, unpredictable sport. Each race is a heart-stopping test of skill and bravery, with athletes reaching speeds of up to 60 mph while navigating challenging obstacles.

With its dynamic and unpredictable nature, Ski Cross has earned its place as one of the most thrilling winter sports in the world. Every race brings a new level of excitement, where anyone can win, and crashes are part of the game. This high-octane sport captivates both competitors and spectators alike.

History

The sport of ski cross was invented in the late 1970’s on the slopes of Mt Alyeska, Alaska as a fusion between downhill ski racing and motocross. Ski cross events began popping up around the US throughout the 80s and into the 90s, but it wasn’t until it made its debut at the 1998 Winter X Games that it began gaining traction and growing in popularity. In 2010, Ski Cross was introduced as an official Olympic event at the Vancouver Winter Games, solidifying its place on the world stage.

Since then, US Ski Cross has worked to elevate the sport domestically, fostering a competitive environment where American athletes can shine. With each season, more athletes are drawn to the sport's unique mix of speed, strategy, and aerial excitement. Today, Ski Cross continues to evolve, with World Cup events, national competitions, and grassroots initiatives designed to grow the sport and inspire the next generation of Ski Cross champions.
